Lighting is an important feature when it comes to interior designing. Though lighting can add a lot of different dimensions to the spaces which have been designed yet it can be very confusing at times as to what light is to be used in what spaces correctly so that the features of that particular spaces are enhanced. To understand lighting better we must first know the different kind of lighting which is available today to us.

Ambient lighting

Also known as general lighting, this type of lighting illuminates an area equally. Ambient lighting is generally used in areas like corridors public spaces temples holes receptions waiting areas so that the entire area is illuminated with the same intensity

Accent lighting

This type of lighting highlights a specific object or point of interest. It can make a room appear larger and is often used to highlight architectural features, plants, sculptures, or collections.


Task lighting

This type of lighting is used to help with specific activities, like reading, cooking, or studying. It's usually brighter than ambient lighting and is directed towards where it's needed most.

Recessed lighting

Also known as downlights or pot lights, these fixtures are installed into a hollow opening in a ceiling. They appear to shine from a hole in the ceiling, concentrating light in a downward direction. Such kind of recess lighting is very much in fashion now where it is used mostly in our homes Where the light seems to be seems to be coming from a pinhole and the direct source of light is not visible so it does not create any glare in the eyes of the user.

Track lighting

These lights form a continuous track along the ceiling and are fixed to a ceiling-mounted structure. They are good for creating bright focus on walls and decor items. Natural lighting

This type of lighting can come from direct sunlight, external reflection, or internal reflection.
